Summary
Originally written as a companion to 1971-1978 series but can stand alone.
Lyall Lupin tries as best he can to clean up the mess he made. His son has been injured, his wife is worried she'll be left alone to raise a werewolf, and his own department is on a rampage to capture the recent victims of Greybacks attacks for the safety of the public.
~ * ~
Remus yawned. His front teeth were missing. Lyall wanted to cry. “Did the dog bite my leg off?”
“No, son.” He smiled at the absurdity and was surprised to feel hot tears run over his cheeks. “Two arms, two legs.”
Remus nodded contentedly. Lyall thought he was surely keeping his eyelids open with sheer willpower. Someone had cleaned the blood from him as best they could, perhaps to be kind, or perhaps to allow all the muggle electrical nonsense to stick. Regardless, he appreciated it. There was an itchy looking blanket tucked neatly around him up to his armpits. He shook it out and pulled it up to his shoulders. “Might as well sleep, Mouse. You won’t miss anything.”

Summary
It wasn't that she didn't want Remus to have magic. It would just have been easier if he didn't.
If she were honest with herself, it took about a year for her to come around to it all. And even then, in the back of her mind, there was a slight bitterness, a fear that had soured and turned unkind, that niggled at her whenever she was reminded that one day (looming ever closer) she’d have to relinquish him.
But that part was small. And she could ignore it, more and more, as time went on.
It wasn’t long after acceptance and resignation had almost completely eclipsed her shameful disappointment, that magic ruined him.

Direct sequel to Prelude 1964 - Puncture Repair
Hope and Lyall have managed to successfully hide Remus' affliction from the Ministry, but now they're left with the problem of the first full moon of many, many more. There isn't a parenting guide for five year old werewolves who won't sleep in their own bed.In other words, Hope has complicated feelings about magic

Summary
Hope and Lyall made a promise to "do anything for him" - and they will - but it's very hard to do it with a smile when everyone in the house is sleep deprived and traumatised, a month after the bite.
~
When Remus had been freshly three, bedroom still littered with birthday presents and having just had chocolate cake washed out of his still silk-fine hair, he'd learned about monsters for the first time.
A book that her parents had sent, full of made-up creatures and whimsical nonsense. He'd cried - she remembered it so vividly - when it was time to put the book down. Not because he wanted more, but because the giant in the story was far too vivid and and had captured his little imagination in the worst way. She could see him still in her mind's eye, tear-streaked red cheeks, warbling out fragmented worries between wet gasps.
"It's okay. It's not real," she'd said.
How she wished she could still wipe his tears, kiss his head, and mean that.

Summary
Months after Remus was bitten, things are better than Hope and Lyall had anticipated. Somehow, sheer optimism and the gall to want their life back had settled them into a routine that felt normal and sometimes even happy in the weeks between full moons.
So they settle in to the reality of their life, breathe out and have a bit of hope.
(and become complacent)
~ * ~
She glanced at Remus, who was busy licking the melted ice cream from his wrist. Perhaps she’d been too selfish in her wish, years ago when he’d first performed magic. Perhaps she’d somehow wished this curse into existence - she’d gotten her secret little request, hadn’t she?
He wouldn’t go. He’d never get to Hogwarts, and he’d never be a proper wizard. He’d stay with her, like her, one foot in and one foot out of both worlds.
Quite abruptly, she lost interest in her own ice cream and offered it to Lyall, over Remus’ indignant and chocolate-smeared head.
There was the magical-world-induced inadequacy and melancholy that always got her in the end. The strange sickening feeling of jealous want and bitter resentment - perhaps with a healthy dose of guilt mixed in, too.

Summary
Childcare falls through and Lyall has to take eight-year-old Remus into the Department for Dangerous Creatures for the day.
Sweet father son fluff and a healthy dash of teenage Newt Scamander for the soul.
Prequel to another fic but makes sense by itself.
(Or, the mysterious previous meeting Newt mentions to Remus in Facsimile of Kin)

Their eyes met, and Remus found that his father was somehow able to read his fear on his face. Lyall’s expression softened and he put his case down on the floor so he could take both of his son’s hands in his - cold from the underground corridors.
“They don’t know.” He assured him, squeezing the little icy fingers. “It’s a secret.”
Remus bit his lip, unconvinced. “But it’s their job to find dangerous creatures.” He contradicted. Lyall closed his eyes against the hurtful sting of his son’s perfectly rational concern.
“Oh Remus. You’re not a creature. You’re my son.” He rubbed his thumbs across the little knuckles and tried to push all the honesty inside him into his smile. “All month long. Okay?”

Summary
The Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office doesn't know the difference between a biting toaster and a kelpie, half the time, so it's little surprise when 19 year old Arthur Weasley appears in Lyall Lupin's fireplace asking for help with a lethifold they had thought was simple illusionary magic in a muggle boarding school.
The risk of having Arthur Weasley in your sitting room at five-thirty in the morning is that he might well find out that your wife is a muggle.

Summary
Remus has been pestering Lyall to let him come along for a work field trip. He had been picturing something like dragons, or pixies, not terror-inducing shape-shifters. Hope thinks that Lyall's proposition of bringing Remus to an abandoned department store infested with boggarts is perhaps a touch misguided. Well, Remus is excited, now. It's too late to take it back.
And he'll have to learn to confront the now-well-buried fear eventually.(I just wanted to talk more about my personal boggart lore headcanons via the Lupins...)

Summary
In a desperate need to feel useful in a war where they are outnumbered and overpowered, Remus offers to go undercover in a werewolf colony at the Scottish Border. Sirius, fresh from his brother's death, wishes the people he loved would just stop straying behind enemy lines.
~ * ~
“This is your problem,” he accused from his back on the bed, scowling up at Sirius and full of a venomous confidence born from wine and a bone-deep sense of inadequacy. “You don’t think I can do anything.”
There was a pause. Remus was too addled to feel the sting of it.
“You’re drunk.”
“I’m right.”

Summary
It's the mid 80s. Remus Lupin is penniless, homeless, out of work and isolated. Newt Scamander is getting bored of Ministry-approved subjects and is looking for a werewolf to study. A suspicious advertisement for a Research Assistant in the Prophet brings the two together in a lonely workshop turned menagerie on the outskirts of the New Forest. Remus is there for the unusually modest pay and absolutely not because the researcher he's working alongside has Lily's eyes, James' boundless enthusiasm and Sirius' gentle hands.
~ * ~
The sunlight was waning behind them and the low streaks of light pierced through the trees, dappling the wet marsh before them in evening gold. Remus’ feet were numb, but he wasn’t willing to complain, and instead focused his attention on the clumps of mud and thick reeds that poked above the surface of the deeper areas, waiting for magical activity.
Newt leaned in slightly, so that their heads were close enough for Remus to catch his low whisper.
“They come out at sunset of course, but I suspect it’s because of the dappling. They can be quite lonely creatures, but a facsimile of your kin is sometimes enough.”

Summary
Remus hasn't seen his mother since 1st Nov 1981. It's September 1983 and he pays Hope a long overdue visit.
~*~
“Sorry, Mam.”
“Sorry Mam!?" Hope repeated incredulously. “You’ll be sorry when you kill me from fright and then you haven’t a mother to speak of.”
His lips twitched into a smile without permission at her drama and he righted it, but not quickly enough. Hope caught it, scowled, then quite suddenly her frightened fury left her and was replaced with a shaky delight, sprinkled with disbelief.
“God, you’re a sight for sore eyes.”

Summary
Remus Lupin is no longer a wide-eyed little boy who must be bundled into the coal cellar once per month and hides behind his dad's legs in public. Newt Scamander is no longer a spotty Hogwarts-drop-out with questionable social skills and a suspicious calming draught habit.
Lyall Lupin would do well to remember that.
- Newt publishes his essay The Lycanthrope as Observed by Newt Scamander for internal review. Lyall reads it, gets the wrong end of the stick and picks fights his son never asked him to. Hope thinks a nice awkward Christmas dinner together will simmer them all down.
Lyall and Newt’s history together at the Ministry sandwiched in between. Not some of Newt’s finest moments…
