Summary
You look at me in the reflection of the mirror when I come in and I smile at your own reflection in response. It makes the ends of your eyes soften and you look younger than you should be. It makes you look older than you are.
“Why are we staring at ourselves?” I ask, standing behind you. You blink at the question and I make a funny face in the mirror and it is so easy for both of us to pretend like we are a few days younger. It is so easy for me to scrunch my lips up like a duck and pretend like the world is not a rotten place, and we have been created for a reason to be something other than rotten people.
You shrug your shoulders, but your hand comes up to the bags underneath your eyes and leaves them shiny. “‘Dunno.”

Summary
It happens in moments.
There is an apology laced in the way Taco raises her brows like so, and there is an apology in the way she takes meek steps forward to come face to face with Microphone. Her eyes sparkle in the light of their creator, and she smiles shyly, teeth glimmering with a mirth that can only be found in the reflection of the pond at the Garden of Eden.
They do not talk (there is not much to say) but they keep close (they have never been good at words). They are together in the way that Taco’s palm curls around Mic’s fingers, lingering gently. They are together in the way Microphone brushes the ends of her fingers against the top of Taco’s head when they move to a second location (their creator created them for entertainment) just so she can make sure Taco is following; that she is there (but there is nothing entertaining in the way they love, just for themselves).

The four times Taco apologizes, and the one time Microphone forgives her.

“Look, if she’s hiding, just tell her that nobody really cares about the finale anymore,” Knife says with a roll of his eyes. You, tired of the conversation, tired of the concern in his eyes that he laces with insincerity, turn over the top card of the deck. You are winning. You tell yourself that you have always been winning. That this was always your strategy. “I mean. We all know that MePhone basically made her do it. If anything, half of this hotel feels bad for her.”
“Don’t.”
Knife arches a brow; doesn’t look away from the cards laid out on the table. You flip over the next one, where there is a crease down the center. It is a king of hearts, as ironic as it can be.
“Don’t—” he starts, trails off. You flip the next card over, with more anger than it deserves. Knife places his chips out in front of him and you do the same and you place your cards on the table and he does the same and you look them over while he continues to talk and you cannot think about anything besides what he says, no matter how hard you try. “Don’t feel bad?”

Summary
“It’s preposterous for you to suggest, really,” Taco continues, and she tries to pretend like Microphone’s question by itself is silly, but she blushes all the same. Microphone hums in the way she does when she knows she has Taco beat. “‘Did I think about you?’—” (she repeats, in a poor imitation of Microphone) “—Why in the world would I think about you, Microphone?”
“I thought about you,” Microphone rushes into a single breath, as soon as Taco finishes her sentence. Her gaze stays focused on her own two hands, which travel down Taco’s collarbone, curling against the fabric of her shirt. Taco curses at the layer of fabric between the two of them. Taco curses at the metaphorical hourglass that hangs above their heads. “All the time.”
“Oh,” Taco says, unsure as to what the correct answer is to this. “Well—I suppose. How awfully silly of you.”
“And we’re going to die,” Microphone says, and Taco purses her lips in response.
"Microphone."
Five times Microphone and Taco cannot control the want that builds between them, and the one time they love freely.
