“My father sent me this,” she told him, handing him a piece of paper.
Kai took it, eyes wide. The tournament was on? “But, the staff won’t work without the elements of creation?”
Skylor leaned closer to him. “He says he has Zane in custody.”
Kai’s lips parted. Zane was alive?! They had a chance! It could be okay! The two of them just had to make it through the tournament without losing or hurting each other. From there, they’d finally, finally be free.
“Holy shit,” he breathed. “Sky, we could…”
She smiled, bumping her shoulder into his. “Glad to know you remember the plan, fire boy.”
“How could I forget?”
After this, no one would be able to stop them. After this, they’d be free.

Summary
“Sensei,” Kai started, and all of them froze. Cole took a quick picture of the symbols with his phone before turning to stare at his friend. He hadn’t referred to Wu as Sensei since they found out about Kai’s history. “You said that the one possessing Lloyd is your first student.” He turned a pointed glare to Wu. “Tell us about our enemy.”
Wu held Kai’s gaze as the rest of them turned to him.
“C’mon, Sensei,” Cole said. “Kai’s right. We know nothing about the ghost that just kicked all our asses.”
Wu took a breath. “Morro was my student decades ago,” he started. “When I was younger, more… foolish. Less careful. He is the Master of Wind, and he’s tenacious. He is… my greatest regret.”
Cole’s eyes widened. “How so?”

“So, the mural was real?” Cole asked as they walked down the hall.
“I did say that doctor was full of shit,” Morro reminded them.
“History is art,” Zane said. “Not science. Even an expert such as Dr. Saunders can be mistaken from time to time.”
Morro gave him a disbelieving look. “It was only forty years ago, Zane. People are still alive from then. It is not hard to ask a simple question of those that were there.”
“That guy rubs my skin the wrong way,” Kai told them. The man had made him uncomfortable since they met.
“Same,” Morro agreed.
“He’s just a historian,” Zane pointed out. “What could he have done to spark distrust?”
Kai rubbed the head of the snake. “Just a feeling, Zane.”
“Hmm. Might serve to investigate that.”
