Summary
He forces his gloved hand through dirt, rock, dust, pushing past the bite of glass shards until his fingers finally hit something warm and solid.
“Hey.” Buck’s voice drops, trembling. “We’re not there yet. You hear me?”
His hand tightens on Eddie’s shoulder.
“You’re not there.” He hopes it comes off like a promise and not just reassurance. “You’re gonna tell Christopher whatever you wanna tell him – yourself – after I get you out.”
The silence that follows is thick, like the air itself has gone still around them. Eddie’s gaze stays fixed forward, eyes glimmering faintly in the dust-choked light.
Somewhere above them, metal groans.
Buck keeps his hand where it is, his grip the only steady thing left in a world that’s still trying to bury them.Or,
A structural collapse that reveals too much.Series

Summary
“I don’t know what you want from me anymore,” Eddie says through the door, his voice worn thin at the edges. There’s a soft thud against the wood, and Buck doesn’t need to see it to know – Eddie’s forehead resting there. “Talk to me.”
“There’s nothing to say.”
“How about when you said you don’t need me?”
Buck exhales, slow and heavy.
Because that’s it. The lie he wants to believe because believing it would make everything hurt less. The one that keeps failing him – failed him today, almost got him killed, almost pulled him down into the pit because for one terrifying moment he was sure Eddie was gone.
One bad call and suddenly Buck and Eddie aren't pretending anymore.

Summary
The truck hasn’t even cleared the hospital parking lot when the radio crackles to life.
“LA Dispatch to Engine 118, be advised–”
Eddie’s head snaps up.
It’s Maddie. Her Dispatch voice – clean, controlled.
Chimney’s eyes flick to the radio, then to Eddie, before he answers: “118, go ahead.”
Maddie continues, steady as a metronome:
“We have a reported MVC on the Fletcher Drive Bridge, repeat: multiple-vehicle collision. Units en route have visual confirmation of two cars at the scene.”
Eddie’s pulse stutters. He leans forward without meaning to, the seatbelt tugging tight across his chest.
Maddie keeps going, all professionalism, no tremor, until she hits the words that break.
“One of the vehicles is – a Jeep – that went over the railing into the water.”
orThe Jeep nde.

Summary
“If you wanted to see me that bad, you could’ve just asked me out.”
There’s a choked sound from the chair. A muffled laugh, quickly swallowed.
Buck’s eyes flick, just once, toward the chair, and then he flushes so fast it’s equal parts alarming and endearing.
“I’m fine,” he says, each word coming with its own zip code.
He always does that. It’s their routine, their little dance. He tries to bolt, she gives him a reason not to, without calling him out. He acts like it doesn’t hurt, she pretends she doesn’t notice the way his jaw tightens, the tremor in his hands.
This time, though, it doesn’t get that far.
“What you are is stubborn,” the guy in the chair says. If there’s meant to be an edge to it, Sam can’t find one. “You took a pretty bad hit to the head, Buck. The helmet came off. You should let them check you out.”
Buck rolls his eyes, but he doesn’t argue. Doesn’t even try.
That’s new.
Sam studies him for half a second, then gestures. “Okay, chin down.”or, Buck and Eddie being perceived by an ER nurse for a decade

Summary
Eddie realized dimly that his hand was still lifted, phone pressed to his ear, the call still live – Buck’s voice spilling through the speaker, thin and panicked and far too loud:
“…Eddie, what is happening? Talk to me. Eddie.”
He should have kissed him before leaving the house, Eddie thought, as his knees gave out.
He should have kissed him more, period. Every chance he got. In the kitchen, from behind, hands wrapped around his waist. On the couch, during the quiet lull of a movie neither of them was watching. In the parking lot before a shift, just because he could. In the locker room as the bells went off – a good luck charm tucked just out of sight.
He should have stopped acting like there’d always be another time.
Or,
Eddie gets shot. Again.

Summary
Buck is slipping. The world narrows to the roar in his ears, and the hand squeezing his own, and something warm and tart flooding his mouth.
“Maddie knows. She knows,” he sucks in a breath. “It was always you, it never could be anyone else.” Buck’s voice is barely above a breath. He’s not sure he’s still making any sound – or sense – at all. “When I’m – ah. Take care of him, okay?”
His teeth, his lips are coated with something thick and sticky. He swallows what he can, but it pools under his tongue again quickly, salt and iron, and he has to swallow again.
“Buck.”
“You have to promise – you’re his Teddy.”or,
