Normally June hated warmth, but this warmth was different. It reached into his soul and provided comfort where there had been pain, cauterizing old wounds that he hadn't realized were still there. June never wanted the fire to go out.
Which was why he was dreading the conversation he had to have the next day.

Elliott stuck his hands in the pockets of Jacob's waistcoat and headed toward town, eagerly anticipating the glass of wine he'd promised himself if he finished his newest chapter. He turned the corner and nearly ran into a figure walking across the bridge toward the Gem Sea. His heart beat fast thanks to the adrenaline of the unexpected person being in his path (certainly it wasn't due to the way the sunlight bounced off their hair, or the sparkle of their eye, or the tantalizing glimpse of skin from under the v-neck of their t-shirt). He knew immediately who this must be.
“Ah, the new farmer we've all been expecting... and whose arrival has sparked many a conversation!" he said, the words leaving his mouth before the stranger had even had time to open their mouth. "I'm Elliott... I live in the little cabin by the beach," he gestured in the direction of his home.
