Time is ticking fast, her birthday is just around the corner and then, to top it all, Sonic appears back into her life.
The past is painful for everyone involved, as they have to learn to confront their own demons. But can they do that before somebody gets hurt?

Summary

It's difficult, you see. When you've spent your entire life fighting, the fighting is never really over. So how are they suppose to just go on living like they know how?
This story focuses on Shadow and Amy while also showcasing the aftereffects of war on the main cast and civilians alike. There's friendship, there's romance, there's despondence, there's comfort, but the most important thing is, as they go through these events, they keep holding on to that edge of tomorrow.

OR Amy Rose may suck ass at dealing with emotions, but holy Gaia she sure is better than whatever the heck she's Sonic and Shadow are doing. Which naturally means somehow her home gets invaded and converted into a heartbroken hedgehog rehabilitation center (with freshly baked cookies!)

Knuckles, Sonic, and most of their other friends don't really think much about Team Chaotix. These sorts of close friendships are just the norm. But maybe that looser sort of model isn't as appropriate when you really don't know where your next meal is coming from or if you'll have somewhere to sleep next month. Especially with a young child in the mix.
Vanilla remembers being 18 and a new mother, how lonely and tough it was. But babies don't notice when parents forgo meals or live in a cramped studio apartment the way a 6 year old does. Vanilla transitioned her daughter from the instability of her infancy to the comfort she not knows by the skin of her teeth, and Vector has TWO mouths to feed, with a LOT of opinions as to how he goes about it.
Basically: None of his other friends think of Vector as a father, but to Vanilla, Team Chaotix is like this horrificly sad and struggling family of three headed by an 18 year old pseudo-raising 1 and-a-half children he isn't old enough to be the father of either.
And don't even think about trying to tell Espio he does not *fully* count as an adult guardian in this situation.
