The burning orange light of the Core shone from behind the Dark King’s eyes, utterly overwhelming the piercing blue irises the siblings shared. The light from his eyes and that of the three gems upon his brow lit up Sasha’s face, her blood, sweat, and tears shimmering in the unnatural light. The Dark King smirked, “Quite the loyal crew you’ve got there sis…”
“Stop saying that! Y-you're not Cam… you’ll- you’ll never be-”
“Maybe, but I’m all that’s left of him. Much like those toads are all that’s left from that tower of yours that started us down this path… tell me, what pretty lies did you spin to entrap their loyalty once more? Come now, I’m dying to know what new tricks you've picked up since our last conversation. Gaslighting, guilt-tripping... What was it?”
“I-” tears welled up in Sasha's eyes once more, “I’m not that person anymore!”
The Dark King’s features twisted into a demented grin, “Maybe you’re right… that person would have put up more of a fight!” with a grunt he brought his fist across her face, sending a splattering of blood across the sand.

(This is a rewrite of the original Losing Marbles aimed to address the mischaracterization and remedy the 3-4 month timeskip that basically skipped Marcy's descent. As fun as it is to make our blorbo go fully on unhinged evil, We both learned it makes for a far better story if there is more conflict within her heart to challenge the Core’s constant manipulation.)
Also, this AU will feature a few original Core Member characters carefully crafted to expand upon what we know about the Core and serve the story.

Summary
What if things didn't go as planned? What if after returning to a desolate and broken version of Amphibia, Anne and Sasha didn't win against Andrias and Darcy? They may have managed to retreat relatively unscathed and with their respective stones, but they were forced to leave behind the most important thing. After five years, being trapped in the Core took a major toll on Marcy, putting her in a desperate state. Desperate enough to fight her way back to consciousness on her own, at least somewhat. Now with split power between the two, Marcy lost her will to defend her friends, her resentment towards them for not freeing her growing more and more each day. Little did she know, they never really stopped trying.

My own dark take on Amphibia explores how humans would actually be perceived in a pure amphibian world that has a history of conquering and enslaving other worlds prior to the Disappearance of the Calamity Gems. This culture would have still somewhat remained, even within isolated pockets within the continent of Amphibia.
