It had been about three hours, and Pomni was not going to let what Caine and Kinger revealed pass unremarked upon. The rest of the troop had split, or run, or chased each other around demanding answers. Pomni was willing to let Zooble go after Jax without picking a side. She was willing to let Ragatha go hide with Kinger. She was willing to let Gangle vanish wherever she had.
She wasn’t willing to let Caine avoid her. And she had an observation to test.

A distinct pop rings behind him. “What’s taking you so— oh my! What happened to the lights? I know I put some in here!”
Kinger turns just in time to see Caine’s eyes frantically searching to confirm his own competence, that he really didn’t just forget something so important as being able to see in the tent. A diligent AI, as always. Not perfect, but god knows Kinger isn’t either, so why would he expect that from his creation?
Well, not just his— they had a whole team, after all, and Queenie would not take kindly to not getting credit for her wonderful additions.
Their creation. All of their life’s work.
Kinger’s eyes crinkle fondly, no mouth to betray how he is smiling on the inside. “Hello, Caine.” He says. “I think this is some of your best work yet.”
(Or as the rest of the gang engages in a fast food masquerade, Kinger finds just enough sanity to talk to Caine properly. If only everything he said didn’t terrify Caine, or this might’ve all gone differently.)

Summary
Jax finally did it. He apologized to everyone! But that's obviously not enough to change anything. Especially when the apology sounded so... disingenuously.
The fan-favorite asshole must be punished for his crimes. The circus members decided that the silent treatment is better than jail. Now Jax can't speak to others, or even hear them, at least until they forgive him. With time and effort, he can work his way through to earn their forgiveness and break the punishment's spell.
Well, in theory it sounds great, but it is Jax we are talking about. What do you mean he can't talk with others? What do you mean there is no audience for his snarky comments? What do you mean he has to befriend people to be able to speak with them again???
He actually wished they would've thrown him into a wacky jail instead.

It would be better if you read it first, but it's not completely necessary to understand the plot. When Pomni approaches the other cast members with frantic descriptions of her room suddenly glitching out for no apparent reason, they're quick to either make her sound crazy (cough, JAX, cough) or reassure her that it was just a one-time thing. After all, nobody else experienced a glitch! Maybe it was just a fluke, Ragatha says. Pomni is not convinced.
It all comes to a head when Caine appears, loud and eager as ever, ready to start the day with another wacky adventure, but... since when does he emit heat like that? And why does he sound so strange?
