“He’ll give his orders when he needs to. don’t let his pretty face fool you,” Isela says shaking her head and placing a hand teasingly under his chin. “His instincts and reflexes aren’t even human. And He’s good for reconnaissance even without his signet. I follow him.”
Or in other words. With Xaden out of the quadrant only returning every 14 days due to his dragon’s bond with Violet, Isela finds herself thrust into taking her place amongst the other marked ones as The Spare.

That is, until a special assignment has her caring for a particularly charming tall blonde rider with sky blue eyes that has a nasty wound inflicted by a sword. But, as we all know, their romance can only be short lived.

“So what did you want to be?” Liam asked.
“Before it all, I was trying to decide between a scribe or a healer.” Isela said with a wistful sigh. Despite the dragons judging her on both sides. “But then I met Violet. She was already deep into training to be a scribe by the time I got there. And while I was doing drills in the courtyard she’d practice transcribing or reading a tome. I learned a lot about the scribes from her. And honestly I wished I was her.”
