Summary
Set a year and a half on from the events of Assassin's Quest. Fitz, Kettricken and Chade find a way to restore Verity to human form. But the task leaves Fitz broken in mind and body. World weary, Fitz withdraws to his cabin in the woods to live in isolation for several months until King Verity seeks him out and drags him back to Buckkeep.

Verity was my absolute favourite character of the series and I just couldn't get enough of these two. So here is the Fitz & Verity centered fic I always wanted read, but could never find. Where Verity gets his happy ending and finally has enough time to help our boy Fitz deal with his host of PTSD and abandonment issues. SLOOOW paced exploration of Fitz and Verity's relationship. There's also a bit of a Chade exploration in there too. (And yes spoilers because that's basically what all fanfiction is ;) ) -

Summary
Fitz and the Fool are surprised to be invited to join the Farseers' private Winterfest celebration, with food, gifts and wine. They spend the evening in the company of the Farseer family and some long term friends, including Burrich and Lacey, drinking wine and chatting in front of the fire. Winterfest gifts from the Farseers are a pleasant but unexpected surprise.
The scene is set somewhere in the Royal Assassin era and coincides with Kettricken's first Winterfest in Buckkeep. I have not attempted to match any specific Winterfest descriptions in Royal Assassin but have kept the Winterfest context more generic. There are some other alterations to the Royal Assassin plot; for example, king Shrewd's health is better than in the book. Molly and Nighteyes are not mentioned.

Horses nicker and shift in their muzzy slumber, and the soft snoring of the minuscule, tan-coated puppies and dog form a susurrus of animal heat - natural, barely perceptible. Chivalry smells the dull grassy sting of old strewn hay, the warmth of fresh milk, the inexplicable smell of young children - the heat of their small frames, the buttery scent of new skin. He wants to vomit, he thinks with some alarm, or maybe faint and sleep for a thousand years. He wants to hold his boy in his own hands. He wants to hand him over to Patience, watch her eyes soften into crescent moons, her dark smooth locks splaying over the boy's bouncing ringlets.

Summary
Alternate history. Begins post events of Farseer Trilogy. Fitz and Nighteyes are on wandering on the road aimlessly, hunting and living in the moment. A drained Fitz doesn't want to return to the world of human responsibilities and those who would claim his loyalty and life. On the road, he is dragged into an entirely different type of life, that of a rogue lawman in increasingly dangerous times.

The captain and Regal both gaped at him. "Why would you talk about him like that? Chivalry is dead, you dolt!"
Verity barely listened to Regal's shout. He was reaching, outwards, inwards, anywhere, to find any trace of Chivalry. Chivalry was better at that than he was, he'd managed to turn his force to subtlety by his own power, was good at hiding away his Skill sense and strength and making himself into a shadow where once he'd been right in the brightest of the light. There was nothing. No assurances that all was well, no shared pain, not even any last words. Nothing.
The first time Verity learns of Chivalry's death, he makes a joke. It takes him a while to realise it is very real.

I stayed silent at that. I knew not what to say. Suddenly, my mind veered, opening old wounds, and I wondered, for a moment, if Chivalry lived and acknowledged me as his son, would he have told me stories like this, too? To see me avid, tense of breath, then giddy when the tale ends with victory. But from what I knew of his character, it seemed unlikely. If he ever were to tell me stories of war, it would be one without niceties, warning me of their brutality.

“Oh, Fitz, I made you a poor bargain indeed,” I said with a rueful shake of my head. I wondered, belatedly, if there was even enough life force left in this shed body to sustain him for a while. I pushed the thought aside. Too late to worry about that now. Now was all I had left, and I intended to make good use of it. I left him lying by the stone dragon and went to find my queen."
Verity is consumed, in more than one way, by the creation of his stone dragon. Still, he decides to make good use of the time he has left with Kettricken. -
