A collection of the shorter shorts, snippets, excerpts and ideas from the Modern Inheritance AU. Most, if not all of these began life on tumblr and after a quick vote, the people have decided Archive needs the extra lore and softer tidbits. Any necessary warnings will be added in the notes.

Summary
What if Brom had run sooner—farther?
If, instead of carving out a resistance in shadow and silence, he had fled with Selena and her child to the very edges of the Empire—beyond where the King's breath could reach, beyond even the memory of oaths and fire—what would they have become?A girl- born of Morzan’s blood but shaped by forest air and her mother’s hands. Would she have grown brave and sharp-edged like Selena, or would the old cruelty have shown in her gaze when no one was looking?
This is a story of the life that almost was—a life not traced in ash and vengeance, but in moss-lined paths and quiet defiance.
No blades, no Riders. Just a man who chose love over war, a woman who had already lost too much, and the child between them who might have rewritten everything. She might have learned to name wildflowers before weapons. To read the wind before the language of runes.
She might have laughed like a child should—soft, unburdened, unguarded.
She might have remained unseen. But peace is a thin veil.
And even in the deep woods, some hungers do not sleep.
The past does not stay buried. It watches. It waits.
And sometimes, it sends a name instead of a shadow. -

Summary
What should have just been an outreach mission to help heal and treat citizens of a recently captured city goes wrong. Arya finds herself tossed into her own mind with little to no control over anything around her, watching confused and in pain as the world whips by. Outside her body, Eragon, Saphira, Glen, Blödhgarm and the other spellcaster guards work franticly to stabilize her, uniting as a family Eragon and Saphira had not quite realized had formed around them.
(More tags and characters to be added with updates. The first chapter only has Arya's POV, the rest will be Eragon and others.)
(Somewhat on hiatus. There is a chapter complete ready to go, but I want to be sure I have things for the next parts somewhat done before posting, and my brain has been moosh for months now. Thank you anyone still interested in this and other Modern Inheritance stories! Still working on it and stumbling, but I will return.)

Summary
It's another Eragon rewrite. I think you have all learned by now that though I thoroughly enjoy the individual characters, I'm not sold on Paolini's version of events. Eragon and Murtagh are raised in Morzan's castle, together, at least for a little while. Everything changes when Eragon is sent/taken away from the estate. He is an angry child, but when you're raised by a forsworn, there isn't much else you can expect.
This summary will be changed as the story goes on. As per usual, not following any sort of guideline and writing whatever comes out of my brain. I really should be focusing on Disparate Book II and Home, but this has been nagging at me and now I'm writing three stories and trying to keep them straight.
I fixed chapter three. Part of it got all jumbled when I was editing and I didn't realize. Sorry!
Eragon is ten at the start of the story and twenty when things really get going.
Eragon has poor mental health and develops severe PTSD. People with poor mental health make poor decisions and he makes a few of those. There aren't exactly any therapist running around. Things will be rough, but will get better. His mental health is a major factor in this story.

Summary
Even though they've been Claimed Mates for over two months, Eragon keeps waking up to an empty cot, Arya fleeing into the night once he falls asleep. His frustration comes to a head when he catches her in the act and she still leaves despite his pleading. Angry and hurt, Eragon confronts his new mate in the morning.
Eragon and Arya have their first argument after becoming mates. Turns out being magic-using, sword-wielding, Shadeslaying war heroes doesn't stop young, quasi-immortal love from hitting the same stumbling blocks as any other relationship.

Summary
It's taken time. War and growth and healing and maybe a bit of help from an elven biology lesson concerning brain chemistry and hormones making it undeniable even for the DENSEST of demisexual/demiromantic elves to realize they are in love with someone.
But it's official now. Eragon and Arya are mates. He loves her, and she loves him. For a little bit of time, they can pretend the world isn't burning and drink in that new normal.
And then the next morning comes around and it's very difficult to keep werecats in bags around here, hm?

Summary
Eragon and Arya spend the day sparring together while the Varden takes a breather. Sparks are flying, and for the first time, Eragon is completely sure of victory against his best (two legged) friend and bodyguard. And he DOES win! That's definitely a disarm and a pin worthy of being called victory!
Unfortunately (oh? Maybe fortunately...), Arya has a very, very strange way of turning the tables that neither of them were quite expecting. Not that it was...bad...for either of them really....

Summary
Islanzadí's mornings have changed as of late. Instead of rising with the sun, she rises well before dawn to watch her daughter and Glenwing run their morning routine. It feels like the only way she can see some of Arya while the younger elf heals and wrestles with everything that came back with her, not to mention the blunt confession to her mother that she was not quite ready to truly forgive.
One morning, Brom joins Islanzadí to watch the two oddball elves and offers up some advice.

He could still taste ashes on his tongue. Couldn't stand the smell of smoke. She hated the feeling of anything around her wrists. Couldn't lay on her stomach without waiting for a blow.
They both had nightmares. Tonight, it was his turn in the fire. And someone was waiting for him.
OR: Glenwing and Arya have frequent nightmares and flashbacks where only the other is able to ground them while they are in Ellesméra for Eragon and Saphira's training.

Summary
Galbatorix has taken the throne.
The last remaning riders, with their bonded dragons, along with their elf friends, human friends, and dwarf friends, must come up with a way to defeat the oathbreaker.
They need a miracle, a rock is falling to the earth. A boy inside the rock. A powerful warrior, the likes of which has not been seen in Alagaesia in millennia. A boy with a troubled and dark past.
Will this boy be their salvation? or shall he be the key to their destruction?
Might add more/change tags later, also I will be using both PJO, Magnus chase, Kane chronicles, and mythology, I won't be just sticking to one or the other. So some details might not match old myths or the books.

Summary
Eragon grows up in Ellesmera with his brother. They've been raised away from the prying eyes of the humans in the empire. He's reluctant to step into the world of magic, but that doesn't matter much when you have no say in whether or not a dragon hatches for you. Eragon and Murtagh learn some harsh truths that send them down different paths and test the strength of their family bonds. Eragon will discover where he fits in the world he's never even seen before. He will make new acquaintances, and strong friends, and hopefully avoid powerful enemies. And maybe, with a little bit of help from his friends, he might just one day strike down Galbatorix.
Thanks to Stutz for the new title :)
