Rainer didn’t speak very consistently (if at all) until he was almost four years old.
So it doesn’t bother him too much when his baby cousin, Carrie, doesn’t seem to be “normal” either; she can talk, sure, but only single word answers or very short phrases. She’s not consistent with it, either. Sometimes, it’s clear she doesn’t comprehend things her parents tell her either.
Of course it doesn't bother him. Why would it?
Rainer’s been through this song and dance himself, so he knows that one of two things would happen: either she’d get the hang of talking eventually, or this would end up being the best she could do. It was the same ultimatum given to him at around her age.
This was going to take time, and patience, and Anna understood that. Rainer understands that.
What Rainer does NOT understand, however, is how, despite everyone telling him that this wasn’t going to be the end of the world, his Uncle Marvin can’t seem to get it through his head that this wasn’t something he could just brute force.
(or, Rainer had a speech delay. Care has a speech and language delay. Rainer’s being normal about Care struggling a bit. Marvin, however, is not.)
