The Prophet has lived centuries, watching civilizations rise from nothing and return to nothing as fate decrees it. He sees the Air Nomads' time come to an end, as fate wills it. He sees a future where there are no Air Nomads save for the Avatar, a future where the Fire Nation rules over nearly everything and the world is thrown out of balance.
And for once, instead of simply letting things play out, he acts.
