Basically, this fic is mostly focusing on the internalized homophobia of both Will and Mike as Mike slowly realizes the many traits he thought he loved about El were everything Will had, while Will tries to force himself to like a girl (he won’t).
Written before many leaks/before season 5 release and plot was planned out before as well so this is not fully accurate!

It's been a year since the streets of Hawkins, Indiana split open, since the Upside Down became the right side up. They managed to kill whatever had become of the last (truly) living member of the Creel house, but not before Hawkins became a ghost town. Now, the population is barely pushing seven hundred, but they decide it's safer that way.
They thought everything with the Upside Down, with Vecna, with the Mindflayer, with Brenner and everything else had ended, had gone away. They thought they were safe, finally.
Oh, how wrong they were.

This honestly is just a fix it fic because I'm very mad at Mr. Micheal Wheeler for being so oblivious to Will's (and his own) feelings 😡I feel like they could have a much better relationship if they just... accepted that they were queerbos.......
I'm aware that Stranger Things is set in the early 1980's, where the AIDs epidemic was still going around, and how they blamed it entirely on gays. Being openly homosexual was like a one way ticket to being bullied. Mike and Will would definitely be nervous about liking each other, but I feel like they should still.. y'know.. try? I'm not sure. Maybe it's my stupid brain trying to justify my babygirls' heinous actions....(I'm a Will defender but Mike is overdue for some damn comfort man 😭🤕)

It’s been two months. Two months since I couldn’t say those three simple words. Two months since I came back home from seeing my best friend since kindergarten and the girl I’m dating. Two months since I lost my virginity. Two months since I made the biggest revelation of my life. TWO MONTHS.
That entire week feels like a hazy dream at this point. Maybe I’m just too much of a self-pitying idiot to try to savor the details. Or maybe I just don’t want to accept the revelation I made. I’m just not brave enough to admit it. Not to the world. Barely even to myself. I think the only reason I have is because I can’t stop thinking about it every free minute of every day for two excruciating months.
Once I made it down the stairs, there were two letters laying on the dining room table for me. Two letters. El and Will. But Will hardly ever writes to me anymore, only when it’s important. Throwing El’s letter to the side, I quickly open up Will’s to find three full pages of handwritten words; the first four being I’m here for you.
