Eddie, Steve and Dustin are on their way to a D&D convention, the other members of the party have other plans this weekend. It’s just Eddie and Dustin wanting to go, they offer Steve to come with which he obviously refuses at first but he eventually agrees to be their driver. Since the convention’s out of town they can’t drive there and back in one day so they leave the day before and spend the night in a hotel near the convention site to be on location early in the morning. It turns out they never make it to the convention and the hotel’s haunted.

Time slows as Wheeler adjusts her aim. She tilts her head, a singular eye closing, and Eddie does the only thing he can think of.
He steps in front.
A shot reverberates through the clearing, and he flinches. Nobody breathes. You could cut the quiet with a fucking butterknife. Eddie releases a shuddering breath and pats down his chest, hands shaking so bad that he probably wouldn’t feel it even if he were hit. He falls to his knees when they come back clean.
Nancy stands there, gun jerked high with wide eyes. She pants, swallowing thickly before fury breaks her calm. “Eddie?! What the hell are you doing-!”
“IT’S STEVE!!” Eddie shouts. His arms shake as the Demowolf bleeds sluggishly behind him. “IT’S STEVE! IT’S STEVE GODDAMN'T!!”

When Robin gets vecna'd something inside Nancy breaks. The two become close due to Nancy's need to keep an eye on Robin, when she vows the upside down won't take another friend from her. Robin is confused and flustered at Nancys new attitude and clinginess.

Steve’s sprawled on the cushioned floor opposite Robin, feet hanging out the back of the van when guitars start playing. It’s almost dreamy, though the guitars are soon joined by something deeper, a cello maybe, and they morph into a slow and sad melody. Steve throws Eddie a look where he’s next to Robin, perched over his rickety lunch box, expertly rolling a joint. He has ditched his jacket; the bats tattooed close to his elbow dancing in the gloomy light.
“Wait for it,” he says without looking up.
Steve waits for it.
Until the melancholic vibe shifts into something a bit faster and decidedly more rhythmical with drums and a bass setting the pace.
Something perfect to get high.
Steve’s head starts bobbing on its own accord and he pretends not to notice Eddie’s satisfied grin.
