"Hang on, Duncan, I'm just coming in." Jimmy tucked the phone into his top pocket and nudged the boat alongside the mooring. She kissed the buoys with a gentle bump and he jumped onto the quayside to tie her off. He dug out the phone and pressed it to his ear, regretting wasting Duncan's thirty precious monthly minutes. "Sorry, sorry. You were saying?"
"About my release day, aye. I've been thinking it might be best if you weren't here, after all, to pick me up."
Jimmy swapped the phone to his other ear, the landward side, because Duncan suddenly sounded muffled and far away, despite the lack of wind coming off the sea. "Come again?"
"I said, it might be better if I make my own way after they let me out."

Staring into the darkened sitting room, Jimmy Perez suddenly felt lonely. It was a ridiculous feeling considering the evidence of Duncan's continued residence was obviously scattered about the room: a jacket over one of the barstools, his favourite mug in the dish drainer, his guitar sadly gathering dust in the corner.

This is the story of three adults to whom life hasn't always been kind, figuring out how to be kind, open, and sexy with each other.
My partner asked for a story in which Duncan and Jimmy bring a woman home together. I gave it waaay too much thought. It's Willow. I love her. I love her on the show and especially in the books, so I wove in her book life to the degree that it didn't contradict the show, then added a lil extra life.
It's set about a year after the end of season 5 and "A Fixed Point in the World". Our OTP have been happily cohabiting since then.
