Scylla has had enough of Charybdis swallowing sailors to line her swirling seabed graveyard, while she, meanwhile, is confined to her cave, furious and constantly starving. Charybdis thinks it fair game, as by the time Scylla hauls herself up to the mouth of her cave, six heads, dog heads, twelve feet and all, the ship of sailors is nothing but bloody froth and splintered wreckage. “Channel your rage into power”, or something or other, is what that bubbling whirlpool always says. “Or learn to flow with your many heads and limbs and get to the mouth of your lair quicker.” Another of Charybdis’ favourite quips to her neighbour.
This contestation of sorts has gone on for many years, but everything comes to a head when a new ship breaks over the waves between the two evils. It is this ship that gives Scylla an idea of how to successfully snatch a meal from the decks… as long as Charybdis doesn’t interfere.
