Summary
In a land far northwest of Middle-earth, the Shire settled with the greenest hill in all of Arda. The inlands and uphills are inhabited by small creatures called Hobbits. They are peaceful folks, and the other people of Middle-earth have known them for the peace and bliss they have lived in for hundreds of years.
Hobbits are not fighters. They are healers, crafters, caregivers, gardeners, cooks, and more and are not suited for impromptu frontline combat like the rest of the races of Middle-earth. They are simple creatures with simple desires in life. Change has been long unwelcome in the Shire, for they believe that things don't need to change and things are perfect the way they are and have been for hundreds of years. Shire folks strive to achieve peace. Peace makes things simple.
And yet an ancient whisper travels the wind. A tale foretold that when the fatherlands are in need of a helping hand, the once hidden race will come out of their hills and stand forth finally to assist with their gifts and finish what others had failed to do.
What these gifts are, nobody knows. Not yet at least.
But it is close to knowing. So close indeed.

"It started with a game, as most things did whenever Fíli and Kíli were involved.
The first time Ori found a piece of parchment tucked into his satchel, he immediately recognized the script; it was Fíli’s shakier penmanship, writing out a joke that was admittedly a bit funny. He found it while he was rummaging in his bag in the middle of class one day while Lord Balin was chalking some information on the board in front of him.
Ori let out a chuckle, and then glanced over at Fíli, who grinned at him. He felt a bit of heat rush to his cheeks, as he pushed the paper back inside, then grabbed out his extra quill tip which was what he had been looking for all along.
They were under the Blue Mountains, and it was that day, where a tradition of sorts was born."

The line of Durin, save for Princess Dís, is considered to be quite ugly. King Thorin and Prince Kíli are happily married though, and so it is of little consequence to them both, years after the events of the Battle of the Five Armies.
Crown Prince Fíli, however, is another matter. He is unwed, and has been secretly pining for his best friend, Ori.
Ori, who along with his siblings, is considered to be the height of beauty. This mattered very little to the Master Scribe, until he overhears a few unsavory dwarrow speaking ill of the line of Durin, especially Fíli in particular. Fíli, who is his best friend, and a long held secret love of his.
Though not fond of large events, particularly balls, the youngest 'Ri decides it's finally time for him to go to one and attempt to save his best friend before it's too late.
