Summary
Draco sleeps alone in the dormitory as the only Slytherin of his year to return. He's learned that he was wrong. How could he not when he's been told so repeatedly from everyone he's come in contact with since the war ended? However, as he returns for his eighth year at Hogwarts he still doesn't understand what it means to be in the right. He needs to get through the year and he wants to have friends again. He never expected Luna Lovegood to persistently hang out with him, nor did he ever imagine he'd have to try to tutor Harry Potter in potions. What he did see coming was the hate, fear, and vitriol his return would instill in his fellow students. He didn't think anyone had known how far they would take it.

Draco has to deal with robes too short, Potter's dog being too happy, and consistent attempts on his life all while trying to learn how he's supposed to fit into a world where everyone is suddenly better than him. A world in which Luna Lovegood is the only person who doesn't seem bothered by his presence. “Something... has been bothering me,” Arthur admits slowly, reaching for his goblet of wine and taking a steeling sip. Merlin’s brow creases and his hand tightens slightly over Arthur’s as he tries to analyse his expression.
“When he... in his chambers. Why didn’t you...” Arthur hadn’t had such problems articulating himself since the night of the incident, almost like talking about it was regressing him back to the very moment. Before he can try again, he has a second where he thinks he’s back in Lord Gelese’s room, catching him all over again.
“Arthur. I know you’re an emotionally constipated prat on a good day, but use your words, please.” Merlin’s voice pulls him out of the memory, and Arthur shakes his head slightly in an effort to dislodge the image. Merlin is alive and in front of him. He has been laughing and sassing and gossiping and casting, life bursting from his every movement, all evening. Arthur needs to get a grip.
TW in notes. This is technically a sequel from Arthur's POV but i think it could probably stand alone.
