The book forgot to mention something, Harriet thought, frowning at the mess her first potion was making. The foam grew, dowsing the fire beneath it and making it sizzle. A soft pop came, then grew louder. Several loud pops followed immediately, the potion splashing with it.
She flinched away, not wanting the hot liquid to burn her skin. With a horrendously loud shattering noise, the pot burst into pieces. Harriet dove for cover, taking refuge behind the lawn mower, which was covered with a green tarp.
Her potion had just exploded her pot! She thought amazed, staring at the brown mess on the floor of the shed. She didn't know how to properly describe it. It looked like a gooey foam, bubbles of brown and black popping dangerously. She couldnt see any of the ingredients she had added, so she had assumed it had dissolved.

What I wanted to write was a quick one-shot that explored the idea of Harry being the biological son of Voldemort, only Voldemort doesn't know he has a son and is also as evil as ever. Meanwhile, Harry is just a charismatic kid with a snake and ridiculously powerful magic.
It turned into a series rewrite.
Here's book four.
Features: a Harry Potter that has a bad feeling about this one, an Oliver Wood who's just heard of this new show called Friends and he's about to make that everyone else's problem, a Tom Riddle that has a REALLY bad feeling about this one, a Draco Malfoy that has done really pretty admirably not being dragged into the narrative for the last couple books if you really think about it, and both Sirius and Remus who are just. They're doing their best, they really are.

Apparently not, because the students who came back for the eighth year suddenly have to deal with the side effects of being child soldiers as well as years of suppression....At least they all get free therapy, even if they don't all want it.
Not every chapter is going to be as long as the first chapter(I doubt most if any chapters will be even close to chapter one in length) nor will every chapter have the perspective of every character or be set in a therapy session.
