He hates that he was banished. He hates that nothing is the same anymore. He hates that all he got for it was the permanent reminder marked into the side of his face. A pair of stupid weights tied to his back. Blind in one eye and half his hearing gone.
Twisting his head, Zuko glares over his shoulder at the broad sweep of crimson skin and scales folded against his back. Reaching back again, softer, he latches onto that same hook. He stretches it out instead of shoving it, and spreads it the length of his arm. It’s only slightly longer, small in terms of wingspan, but Uncle says he’ll grow into it.
They shift slightly as Zuko curls further into himself, brushing together with a soft rustle. He hates them.

Now, their songs were no more, muffled by the thick ceiling of poisonous smog. Rudo couldn’t help but miss it— even if they were secluded from the slums; only heard through the concrete barrier that separated them.
Now, he couldn’t hear them at all.
So why was he still so hung up about it? The loneliness? Rudo didn’t understand. Didn’t understand the bitter tears sneaking up on him, blurring his vision like a second eyelid. Nothing made sense, he grits his teeth. He is nothing. He is no bird.

Probably naively, Danny felt rather romantic about it. It didn't need to make sense. Sensations that extend beyond his back. After holding his breath and counting backwards from five, Bruce turns his head to look behind him and, yep, he’s got real, actual bat wings sprouting from his back. Great.
Whilst fighting a group of cultists, Batman is hit by a magic beam that turns his purely mechanical wings into real muscle and skin. Superman, of course, helps him through it.

“Devil-kin who likes rules. Wow.” Rozanov’s voice is deep, much deeper than Shane was expecting, and it sends a shiver down his spine that knocks his tail loose from his waist. It lashes behind him, broadcasting his irritation for anyone to see, and Shane’s cheeks flush with embarrassment.
