Summary
Elysium catches Thorns looking at that painting on his wall. The 2006 remake version was made by his old friend in university, an art student who had a strong connection to the ocean. The painting was skinny, and wide. It depicted two people standing near an ashy gray beach, with the large waves crashing into the rocks as its fluids flew everywhere.
"You like that painting, huh?" Elysium dunks his spoon into the bowl of fried rice he just made, indulging himself in sweet potatoes and spicy carrots. Thorns glances at the taller, nodding stiffly. "Yeah, me too." He smiles, continuing to eat warm food.
Or, Elysium's roommate, Thorns, appears to be a special case. He has a strong interest in the ocean, and as weeks go on, Elysium realizes that his interest goes deeper than the surface.

While Goro's most prolific cases are ones he staged himself, he isn't stupid. He sees Kurusu following him on the nights where he's escorting clear as day, the boy painfully out of place amidst the crowds of the rich.
As a kindness, he doesn't mention it when they next meet up for darts, the two of them tip-toeing around the topic of Goro's extracurriculars the way they used to about the topic of the Phantom Thieves. He notices Kurusu's gaze linger on the thin strip of bare wrist between cuff and glove, and knows that despite the lack of acknowledgment, something has changed between them.
