"We have to get the rookies together," Ilya announces without preamble.

"Jesus," Shane mutters. Talk about subtle. "Have you ever left anything alone for once in your life?"

He grins. "No. Is how I got you!"

Or: There's a new rookie in town. Luca Haas is handling this just fine.

    “You didn’t.”

Pez beams down at him. “I didn't do what, darling?”

“Tell me you didn’t get stuck in a tree just to call the fire department here.”

“I didn’t get stuck in a tree just to call the fire department here.”

Henry’s shoulders slump in relief. “Oh good–”

“I got stuck in a tree just to call Alex here. Semantics.”

Or; Alex is a firefighter and Pez is the best matchmaker around.

"God, Alex, I don't know how you get through life being so-"

    "...So?"

But Henry isn't responding, his train of thought cut off entirely at the sight of the cursive scrawl on Alex's now exposed chest, shirt entirely unbuttoned. The font is in perfect cursive, looping around the letters as his eyes hone in on two words in startling clarity, black ink against tanned skin.

    Bloody child.

"Prick." Henry says, nothing more than a breath, and watches as the font curls and changes to reflect the word.

    "Ex-fucking-scuse me?"

Panicked at the thought of Alex being stood directly in front of a mirror, he whispers underneath his breath the first word that comes to mind, “Gorgeous.”

    “Are you having a stroke?”

In a world where the last thing your soulmate says about you appears on your skin, Henry has always wanted to see the black script curl across his chest. Unfortunately for him, his soulmate turns out to be the infuriating wedding planner determined to work alongside him, who has absolutely zero interest in finding his own soulmate.

Life is what you cake it, he supposes.

Alex is lost. The next logical step would be to try to track him down, like, in person. But he’s not going to do that. That’s insane behavior. Those are the actions of someone who doesn’t know how to take a hint, even though Alex can’t scrub the words you’re incredible from his mind. He’s folded and refolded the note a hundred times in an effort to forget.

James wouldn’t write that if he didn’t mean it. Right?

But Alex is not, he is not, going to prowl around the city with irrational optimism that James will also be out on the same street.

    He's not that desperate.

Or: Alex's one unforgettable night with a mystery guy named James turns into a search across New York City to find him again. He's just missing a key few details along the way.

    Summary

In a world where the first words your soulmate will say to you get inscribed on your wrist at 16, knowing if you've met "the one" should be easy. But when is Dean Winchester's life ever that?

Because the thing is, it's the first words they say to you face-to-face that count--not over text message or video chat or any of the ways he's been communicating with Cas since they met online.

The night before they are supposed to see each other in-person for the first time, his mind won't shut off--too busy retracing the four words on his skin over and over again that read, "What you got there?"

It didn’t sound like something Cas would say—nor did the child-like scrawl it was written in look like he imagined Cas’s handwriting. But how could it possibly be anybody else?
