Summary
Buck never could stand living in silence for long. His parents having conditioned the feeling into him practically from birth, and he always hated it. He hated the stifling feeling of knowing he’s too much and not enough and just simply too loud. He learned to cope better with it after he left Hershey, after finding pieces of himself he hid away in an attempt to be more manageable. But he could never seem to fully out run the unease that quiet brings to him, somehow finding it in every new place like a burning rash that just won’t go away. And for some reason, his loft makes it feel more.
There’s a sharp knock on his door and the steady sound of footfalls moving down the corridor echoing the further they travel. The abruptness shaking him out of his own head, out of the deafening quiet. He’s on his feet, his leg adjusting to the movement with the now familiar dull throb that is present from the moment he wakes up to the moment he sleeps -he briefly wonders if the ache follows him into his dreams. When he opens his door, there is of course no one there. Well, no one who can talk at least, because sitting in a pristine carrier next to a fully stocked baby bag, swaddled in soft yellows and whites, is a baby. -
