"Ever since big brother has come back, he's been quite sad," Tonia whispers as she watches her big brother take a walk outside while a snowstorm rages on.
"You're just overthinking," Teucer remarks. He and Anthon have been messing about with the newest Mr Cyclops toys that big brother got for them. "He's been playing with us fine! Maybe you're the problem," Teucer teases.
Tonia huffs, but doesn't pay heed to the words of her younger sibling. She's outgrown that now. She will not be responding to Teucer's nonsense, she's mature now, thank you very much.
She goes back to looking out the window, her big brother has definitely been morose. And so close to his birthday too… unacceptable, she decides. She will have to do something about this.

Summary
Shortly after his retirement, he told the Traveler that he looked forward to traveling the world now that he has time to himself. And that was a genuine sentiment at the time. Teyvat is vast and beautiful and he was and still is curious to see how it's changed over the decades and centuries that flew by while he ruled over Liyue. However, leaving this wonderful place, even for a short time, was more difficult than he anticipated. There were always reasons to stay and nothing ever felt urgent enough to finally put those traveling plans into action.
That is, until most recently.

Summary
He misses him in the morning.
The quiet warmth of waking beside someone, of the plush covers pulled over both of them, limbs tangled, the way Ajax always lies on his left side so he can watch the door even in sleep — obstensibly protecting Zhongli, who has never needed any protection but is certainly not going to protest it. The way Ajax is awake first - but too content to rise, forgoing his usual sparring practices just to contemplate Zhongli in the gentleness of Liyue's sunrise. He'll lean to kiss Zhongli oh so softly the moment the ex-Archon starts to stir, and Zhongli does not understand how one simple gesture can now be such a cornerstone to his entire existence. The kiss, and then the soft greeting, and the check in with each other - to make sure the other is okay, that they slept well, that their dreams were sweet, and even then they are lazy and languid, until they really should get up and address their different duties.
Zhongli misses Ajax.
