It had snuck up on her, the terror came out of nowhere after the dream had started out so nicely. The leisurely morning, getting ready for the gala, Damian arriving to pick her up, offering flowers and a self-conscious compliment. They had danced together all night, twirling and laughing; and when they tired of dancing, and time had come to watch the meteor, Damian had led her outside to the gardens where Anya knew he was planning to confess to her.
It had been a rude shock then, for the dream to end with such abrupt agony and confusion. Anya rubbed at the centre of her chest, the spot where she felt the phantom echoes of her dream-self’s mortal wound. She was pretty sure she had been dream-shot in the dream-heart, but couldn’t be entirely sure, it was over pretty fast.

Summary
Just as she pries her head off the bar, the band playing at the far end of the room stops their song and a new voice booms from the microphone.
“I’m terribly sorry to interrupt but…”
Yor whips around to see a man standing on the small stage in front of the band, squinting into the bright spotlights as he leans into the microphone. He looks exactly like Loid, except slightly more disheveled and unlike his usual polished self. Her heart sinks.
Please don’t let that be Loid, she silently pleads.
“I seem to have lost my wife.”
She buries her head in her hands while mumbling curses.
Yor and Twilight learn the truth about each other. Neither of them expected what unraveled afterwards.
