James didn’t look up from his quill, his lips curling into a lazy smile. “She’s not coming today.”
That got Sirius’s attention. He tilted his head, eyeing James with suspicion. “Oh? And why’s that?”
James finally looked up, giving Sirius a knowing smirk. “She’s just tired, that’s all.”
“Tired?” Sirius echoed, clearly not buying it. Lily Evans didn’t just miss class for something as simple as being tired. She was a perfectionist, always upholding her high standards, especially in Potions, where she was practically Slughorn’s favorite. “What do you mean ‘tired’? She seemed fine yesterday.”
James’s smile didn’t falter. In fact, it widened just a fraction. “You know how it is with girls sometimes. She’s just… got her period. Not feeling up for class.”
Sirius snorted, rolling his eyes. “Right, and you’re the authority on that now, are you, Potter?”
James shrugged, clearly unbothered by Sirius’s teasing. “Just relaying the message, mate. She told me this morning."
