    Summary

Two years on, March and Healy are a damn good team. And if Healy spends more nights at March’s place than his own, and worries about him whenever he’s out of sight, and wants nothing more for the future than to stay and see to it that the Marches are happy—that’s fine, right? This is fine.

(In which a simple case at a gay bar, Holland March in a really good dress, and Healy discovering disco combine to remake Healy’s world. Written for a Tumblr prompt by sticksbug.)

    Summary

Blackmail. Illegal porn. Undercover at a gay bar. The Nice Guys sure are at it again.

“Porn? I can throw a rock in this neighborhood and I’m gonna break the window of a porn store.”

March gestured anxiously, waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Healy paused. “Ohhhhh. The nasty stuff. Whips and handcuffs. Girls and animals.”

“Close,” March said, grimacing. He really, really didn’t want to have to explain this. “Think more like…. Disco.”

“Disco?” Healy raised an eyebrow. “What, like the queer music? You think the back room of that store is full of porn for… For disco fans.” He nodded thoughtfully a couple of times. “And you’re an expert about this?”

For a second the whole world went white around the edges and March thought he might pass out. He was too sober for this conversation. What exactly had Healy noticed that morning, how obvious exactly had his full-body reaction to Healy’s hand on his neck been? “I was a happily married man!” March said, and as soon as it came out of his mouth he knew it was wrong. Too fast, too high-pitched, too loud.

    Incriminating.

There are a lot of things that Holland March expects to find in his home. Half-eaten bags of cereal. Guns. His daughter's diaries. Case files.
One thing that he never expected to find was Jackson Healy in a goddamn dress.

    Summary

The guy only sniffs and hitches his hands up on his hips, showing off a trimmer waist than his oversized rugby shirt suggested. “What’s your name again?”

“Rocky,” he offers, simple and easy. “You?”

“Grace,” the guy says. “Or Mr. Grace, if you’re a seventh grader within twenty yards of me.”

    “Just Grace?”

    “Just Rocky?”

Rocky arches a brow and steps inside the copy room, which seems to charge up the air despite the preexisting smell of hot paper and toner. “Look, Mr. Grace,” he says, trying to keep his posture open and casual even though Grace is nearly a hand taller than him. “I didn’t mean to roll up like gangbusters on your copy room racketeering gig, I was just trying to learn the lay of the land and get my sheets prepped for the kids. But I’ll mosey on down to the math department and put my formal order in if need be.”

Grace rolls his jaw like he’s got a marble in his mouth, and now that they’re closer Rocky can make out the bright blue of his eyes and the gold in his lashes. Damn, he’s a good looking son of a bitch, if only he didn’t have a stick jammed so far up his pert little—

    Summary

After the Taumoeba leak, after I decided to die after all and turned my ship around to save Rocky, after Rocky's frantic calculations about food supplies, Taumoeba multiplication rates, and human caloric intake needs, after we realized that with some rationing and luck I would make it, but that we were headed toward the unknown territory of trying to rapid-prototype me a life support system and synthetic food supply on an inhospitable planet: after all of that, after everything, I shouldn't have been surprised that it only took a few months on board the Hail Mary for things to get weird.
