    Summary

“Thomas,” The police officer addresses him sternly, “you could have gotten yourself and your mother into a lot of trouble. What do you have to say for yourself?”

Buck feels something break apart inside of him. Sharp, like a rubber band snapping under pressure. The future is already bleak. Punishment is a promise at this point. A tiny dark room and lessons he can’t hope to escape. It can’t get any worse.

This might be the last time he gets to see the sky. One last chance to escape. To where? It doesn’t matter. Buck tips his chin up and looks the police officer dead in the eyes. “She’s not my mother.” He announces and unclips his seat belt. “And my name isn’t Thomas.”
    __

Or, Evan Buckley was kidnapped when he was five years old. At age thirteen he finally escapes.

    Summary

Buck’s recovery was supposed to be about healing.

Instead, it gives him too much time to think and a challenge from May that leads to one very awkward cooking video.

    He expects ten views.

What starts as a way to fill the endless hours of recovery becomes something Buck never expected: a community of strangers who want to hear him talk about food, dinosaurs, and whatever questionable amount of garlic he considers "reasonable."

Between viral cooking videos, a very invested teenager, a seven-year-old dinosaur expert, and the people who never stopped choosing him, Buck starts to realize that maybe he was never as alone as he thought.
