Oh, how these past choices mocked her.
‘‘Our clan would never have abandoned us.’’ Aha’ri knew in her soul that this was true. She remembers her sa’nok’s voice. She knows her love, “Poan lu tikxey.” He lies about this, he has to be.
Their clan was strong, known, they wouldn’t have left them as slaughter to demons. There was no way.

Though every fiber of her being longed to curl up in a ball and shut out the alarming scene, she found herself compelled to choose from the two options that ominously confronted her.
"Shake her awake," she inwardly commanded, her mind finally settling on a decision amidst the growing unease. Suddenly, her body sprang into action, almost as if she were being forced to relive a haunting sequence she had witnessed countless times before.
