Personal Log, Stardate: 44683
It took 3 weeks and about a hundred interviews, but at last it seems I've been selected for the festival of cultural exchange on Holodron 4. Why they need a novelist from Galaxta of all places, I have no idea, but evidently I have accumulated enough awards to represent my planet in the festival and ensuing conference. The only problem is the distance. Using one of our outdated ships, it would take nearly 6 years to reach Holodron 4, so the Federation was kind enough to supply one of their own ships for transport.
It's a behemoth, housing over a thousand workers and civilians alike and capable of many more. Supposedly, it’ll get me where I need to go in just over 6 months, right in time for the festival. They’re sending a shuttle to pick me up later today. What was its name again? Oh yes. The Enterprise.

Summary
The arrival at Erid is a momentous occasion. Rocky is excited and thrilled. Ryland is overwhelmed. But the reunion is happy, beautiful, amazing.
Or that's what it should have been. Except Rocky gets hurt, Ryland is left to try and communicate with an alien planet, and everyone is scrambling to figure out how to do this. To Grace, this is incredible but also bittersweet - he got Rocky home safely with the taumoeba, now he just gets... to starve. To Erid, this is insane - how did Rocky show up in an alien spaceship with a child???

Ryland Grace is stuck trying to speak Eridian, immediately makes himself sound like a child, and Rocky's world and family scramble to help this strange pebble. Misunderstandings galore, alongside hurt/comfort and angst and fluff.

Summary
Three years after the probes carrying Taumoeba and Dr. Ryland Grace's final message arrive on Earth, humanity launches an interstellar spaceship with a brand new mission. Thirty-six crew members (including two graduates of a certain San Franciscan junior high school) travel to the star 40-Eridani to make friendly contact with the Eridians and bring them the alien life form from Tau Ceti-E that can save their star if Dr. Grace's sacrifice failed.
Grace, now fifty-seven years old, is just trying to balance his life as a teacher while no longer being the only human on the planet anymore. It's a big adjustment, but Rocky and the Terra's Grace crew are going to make sure he's well taken care of.
