At half past seven, a woman walked in, not much older than her, and Blue rolled her eyes. The woman was dressed head to toe as if she belonged in the store’s window display; ugly chino shorts and even uglier polo. A catastrophe of too bright orange and beige. She had long brown hair and a nice tan. Nice arms, too.
It wasn’t seldom that women came into the store, but usually they’d be with their husbands, affairs, brothers, or fathers. They’d wear pencil skirts and heels that looked like you’d break a neck if you attempted to walk up a flight of stairs in them.
A woman completely dressed in tacky menswear was, however, an unusual sight, not only in this store but in all of small-town Henrietta. Blue herself didn’t care much about gender norms and fully believed that clothes did not have a gender anyway, so she could appreciate that much
Or, Blue worked in an expensive store and Gansey stumbled in one day, fascinated by the eccentric retail worker. Also, they're both women.

“Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to torment your food?”
It felt as if the voice was trailing cold fingers up her spine, alighting something deep and instinctual that yelled at her to flee. The rabbit in her grasp must have felt similarly, squirming away from her in a panic. Annette looked up to find ethereal blue eyes glowing amongst the shadows, before a tall man stepped out of the darkness as if he'd been a part of it. His eyes gleamed, flashing a fanged grin.
“Me neither,” he said in answer to himself, baring a clawed hand in threat.
Annette stood, machete raised. “Who are you? What do you want?”
“Oh, little deer, all alone in the woods.” He shook his head while leisurely walking a circle around her, voice oddly playful. “You should be more careful after running into a wolf.”
His eyes gleamed, and he winked. Annette’s breath caught. The wolf from before, it had been him. She wasn’t being hunted by a mere animal.
She was being hunted by a monster.

“Oh, Chéri,” Cécile’s eyes are filled with sympathy, “You mustn’t think of it that way.”
“How else am I supposed to think of it, then?” Annette hisses, “You’re going to marry me off to some white man I don’t even know. A French man, right?” She scoffs, disgusted. “Those people were the ones who enslaved us to begin with!”
“Annette,” Cécile shakes her head, “How do you think freedom is maintained?”

But the wall was behind her, and she couldn’t get any further. She pressed herself against the wall, drawing herself in to make herself as small as possible.
One of the demon's scaly claws landed on her shoe, vile and otherworldly, and it heaved itself up her leg, scorpion tail readying.
She closed her eyes and braced herself for what she was sure was going to be a painful death.
When it didn’t come, she cracked her eye open, just in time to see the monster on her erupting into dust.
She blinked, and dropped her hand from where it had automatically come up to shield her face. Standing in front of her were the two men from before, the pale one sheathing a strange, slightly glowing sword stained with the monster’s black blood.
It seemed impossible. One moment the creature was there and the other it was gone, the only thing that remained of it currently coating her leggings. That wasn’t how living things died. That wasn’t how anything died.
But then she snapped herself back into her mind. That didn’t matter. What mattered was that thing had attacked Noah, and he wasn’t getting up.

Now Damian is bugging him about cows and family and Jason and Dick won't stop kidnapping him and Bruce is acting like court orders don't matter, like he doesn't have a huge bat-shaped secret to protect from literally the whole freaking world.
Why is Tim the only functioning adult in this situation?
This was supposed to be coated in angst, but it fell in the fluff bucket instead. (So, update, some people are saying this may not be as fluffy as I am advertising it. I plead the 5th.)
