Summary
Ilya accidentally shares his location with Shane, who checks it obsessively but never mentions it to Ilya (it would be, like, embarrassing). But then Ilya misses an important game and Shane fears he's been kidnapped and has no other option but to go investigate, armed with only a hockey stick and a knife (and maybe a lot of previously unsaid feelings).

Maybe it was because two years on he really had come to terms with the death of his MLH career. Maybe it was because he wanted the last gasp of what his life should have been. Maybe it was because at McGill too many people knew his family, knew his sob story, knew that two years of juniors only meant two years of a scholarship, but in America hockey didn’t matter like it did here and the NHL moved on fast even when you go from top draft pick to nothing in the blink of an eye. And maybe it was because he and Ilya Rozanov were supposed to climb the mountain together but instead he had two gold medals, he was first overall, he was going to be rookie of the year…and he had kissed Shane in that gym like he was starving for it, like he knew Shane was too.
It didn’t matter why he did it really, only that he said yes.

"No!" Shane protests, maybe more desperately than he should.
Sure, Montreal isn't likely to win this game without him, but they've already clinched a playoff spot. Even with Boston and New York both vying for the best seeding, winning, for once, isn't the biggest reason Shane needs to get back out.
If he sits out the rest of the game, Ilya will know he's injured. He'll probably cancel even if Shane insists he's fine to meet up, and Shane won't get another chance to see him in person until the fucking MLH awards in June. By then, Ilya will probably have a flight back to Moscow booked. Shane hasn't spent weeks coming up with and practicing his cottage spiel to miss out on the opportunity because of a couple broken ribs.

Shane doesn't quite escape the episode 5 hit unscathed, but he has a date with Ilya he can't afford to miss.
