    Summary

Clark Kent has a pretty great thing going for him. He's the backup goalie for the Gotham Blades, the worst team in NHL history, and he's working on his journalism degree. He never has to worry about money and he's got plenty of free time to be Superman and partner with the Justice League.

It's all going really well. Until Bruce Wayne ruins everything.

“When I asked you what you wanted for your birthday, you said you wanted the Blades to,” Bruce used air quotes which shouldn't be endearing, “win an ‘effing’ game for once in your life.”

"What,” Jason barks out a laugh, “you’re gonna bribe a ref or somethin’?”

“Goodness no!” Bruce cries out dramatically clutching his hands to his chest, utterly scandalized. “What do you take me for? A criminal? Of course not, Jason. I would never! I am a good influence.”

Jason continues to glare at him, clearly waiting for something.

“I bought the team,” Bruce announces.

“You don’t know what I was going to ask,” Clark said with a hint of a smile. “Maybe I just wanted to congratulate you on catching the Film Freak.”

Bruce gave him a flat look.

“Or maybe I think I can help.”

    “With a case of vandalism?”

Clark stepped in front of him. “It’s not vandalism and you know it, detective.”

“And what makes you say that?”

“If it were vandalism it would be something a lot more juvenile. To the point. It wouldn’t claim there were seventeen missing kids. That’s public outcry.”

    “Is that so?”

“That and I tried to do a story on the growing number of homeless children last month and I got shut down. According to the last count, the numbers have been decreasing, but there’s been no change in policies, no extra funding to CPS, or shelters, or even an increase in the number of inmates in the juvenile detention center. So where are they going?”

Detective Bruce Wayne may have the highest solve rate in Gotham, but if he wants to solve this case, he’ll need the help of an elusive street kid, and while Dick Grayson always lands on his feet, he usually lands himself right into trouble.

    Summary

Avery has taken a job as a Fire Lookout during wildfire season on a nice, secluded island, and it's great! Friendly people, stunning nature, a colleague who works in the lighthouse who clearly cares enough to talk Avery through the first night on the job-

It's pretty great, if you look past The Horrors.

Unfortunately, said Horrors are quite persistent.

(Sibling fic of 'The stranger in the lookout' By Poker. Read their story to get Derek's POV of the events)

Derek wakes up one morning with no memory of his husband.

There are two mugs in the kitchen. Two toothbrushes in the bathroom. A coat by the door that isn't his. A phone full of messages from a man named Avery. Except Avery is dead. All Derek has are the things Avery left behind: unfinished messages, strange notes, hospital records, and a trail of clues that seem to point toward something much darker.

or, Derek races against time to uncover the truth about Avery's death. The deeper he digs, the more it begins to look like Avery may never have died at all.
