    Summary

When Ned told Peter about the Stark Industries field trip he was missing out on whilst in recovery, Peter thought he wouldn't have to worry about it. He assumed he'd be asleep for it, as he was most of the time nowadays, and had forgotten about it quickly. He had more important things to worry about, like his damaged arm, his charred face, and everything else that'd happened in consequence of him snapping Thanos out of existence.

But then he went to the cafeteria with Mr Stark, and saw some unexpected familiar faces.

AKA Peter did the snap and is in recovery at SI, Midtown field trip trope sprinkled in, small identity reveal.

And there were plenty of eyes on them.

After all, it wasn’t often Tony Fucking Stark comes down to the low-level cafeteria, let alone in casual clothes, let alone with his daughter, let alone with some random wheelchair-bound teenager. Peter kept his head down, pointedly not looking up at anyone as he was pushed through. He probably should have, though. Maybe then he would’ve had a chance to see a certain group of familiar faces sat at one of the tables specifically for tour groups.

This is no longer about that goddamn phone. This is a matter of pride. There is no way he’s gonna let this pipsqueak think that he can get away mouthing off at him like this. He grabs his second knife from his leg holster and aims for the kid's stomach. There’s no way he’ll avoid this hit. The kid had backed himself into a corner, like an idiot. There’s nowhere to run and—

HOLY SHIT THE KID IS CLIMBING THE WALL.

Mike actually does drop the knife this time. Quicker than he can blink, the scrawny kid is on the fucking wall above his head like some kind of demon child.

Peter Parker has the worst luck on field trips. This time is no exception.

“Alright, who is harassing my intern?” Interjects a voice from the entrance. Someone gasps as one Anthony Edward Stark strides into the room wearing a grease stained Led Zeppelin shirt, jeans, and a pair of sunglasses. Peter wishes he could enjoy the way Flash's jaw drops. Based on how frantically MJ is suddenly drawing next to him, he assumes that at least she gets to enjoy this situation at least. “You okay there, Peter?”

“Hi Mr. Stark, I have radiation poisoning.” Peter groans.

Tony’s eyebrows shoot up and he schools his face into an appropriately concerned expression. Peter would almost believe it if he didn't see the corner of his mouth quirk upwards. “Huh, that’s not good.”

“You okay, Spidey?” one of the EMTs calls after him, as his first attempt to shoot a web at the nearest building falls limply through the air and onto the empty street.

“All good,” Peter returns dizzily, trying for a smile just in case the mask is shredded enough for his pearly whites to peek through.

“Come and get checked out,” she offers. “You can keep the mask on.”

And Peter does what any good citizen would do when given a clear order from a healthcare professional.

He promptly turns and legs it.

And once he realizes it he, he can’t un-realize it. Peter almost died five months ago, alone in his shower, a terrible thank-you gift to be for Mr. Garcia when the smell finally got bad enough for the neighbors to complain.

Peter almost died five months ago, was dragged back to life by two people who didn’t have to give a fuck but did anyway, and the memories would’ve died with him. The true version of things, that family from Queens and those boys climbing up fire escapes and through each other’s windows on Friday nights just for the thrill of it, when they could just as easily have taken the stairs.

All gone, like blood down the drain of his shower.

    Summary

He found himself on the island, found himself running, almost sprinting to where the kid was, pushing through medical staff, pushing through police. He had to stop himself when he reached the room Jean and Peter were in, seeing her force field around the kid.

Frank realized this was his first time seeing the kid’s face, that the mask was finally off. His face was soft, kind, and reminded him so much of his little boy, that Frank felt the air being sucked out of his lungs. This kid–he was truly just a kid. A kid who had seen too much.

He couldn’t look any longer, or he’d be sick. He knew he did this, but the shot hadn’t been meant for the kid. It was meant for her. He couldn’t shake the feeling of guilt though, that he had ultimately just ruined someone’s life, that he had just created another damaging memory for his mind to play tricks on him with. The flashes of the kid’s face, meshing with his own son’s face made his head start to spin, and his chest to feel tight, almost heavy.
