Sokka’s head snapped over to Zuko, who looked just as shocked as Sokka felt. His cheeks were cherry-red and he had a hand clapped over his mouth. “Did you just laugh?” Sokka asked. Just to make sure his ears still worked.
Zuko spluttered, his cheeks darkening. “What—no! Why would I ever—I mean, what is laughing?” And then, “Your jokes suck anyway!”
OR
Sokka accidentally makes Zuko laugh during one of their fights. He takes it upon himself to continue making Zuko laugh in their future encounters, just as a "distraction tactic."

Sokka and Zuko do not like each other. However, unbeknownst to them, they're actually best friends online, going under the pseudonyms of thebluespirit and boomeranguy15. When Blue and Boomerang find out they both live in Hong Kong, they decide to meet up in person as soon as possible.
Suffice to say, things don't exactly go to plan.

“We weren’t gonna make it to the door,” Zuko said.
“So you decided jumping into the literal void was a better option?!” While Zuko couldn’t see Sokka’s face in the dark, he could imagine the incredulous look he was giving him right now.
“Hey, we’re alive, aren’t we?” Zuko challenged.
Sokka sighed. “Yeah, true. Anyway, are we going to climb back up? Or are we gonna just hang out here for a little while longer?”
“Was… was that a fucking pun?”
From below, he heard a stifled giggle. “M-Maybe.”
Zuko was glad for the darkness, because he could pretend to be annoyed at the joke by sighing because Sokka couldn’t see the smile that had spread across his face.

Some nights, after everyone had gone to sleep and it was just him, he thought he would let the Fire Nation burn as many Earth Kingdom cities as they wanted if it meant that his dad could hold him close one more time and never have to let go. When Katara offered to stay behind, to let him see Dad, he was a hair's breadth away from agreeing.
But Sokka knew his sister better than he thought he knew himself sometimes. For all her talent and kindness, she didn't have the same mind for strategy; she'd never needed to rely on it like he had. And while they’d traveled, she had been too focused on mastering her bending, and then teaching Aang to do the same, to notice all the little things that could make the difference between a successful invasion and a tragedy. Sokka had been the one to take note of everything. He was the one with the experience, and he knew that if this plan failed, it wouldn't matter if he got to see Dad right now anyways because he'd never have the chance to keep him.So he let Katara go instead of him.
