For years now, his daily routine consisted of sleeping until noon, eating spiced lotus root soup, and being pampered, carried, and thoroughly adored by the most handsome husband in the cultivation world. He was, by all technical definitions, a deeply spoiled, wildly cherished trophy husband.
And now? He was back in a cave, smelling like dirt, with a back screaming in protest from thirty seconds on a stone floor.
"My husband!" Wei Wuxian wept a single, tragic tear, clutching his chest. "He’s tall! He’s rich! He smells like sandalwood, and he carries me when my feet hurt! Do you know what he did when I complained about the chill in our bedroom? He bought three fur rugs! Three! And now look at me! I am sitting on a crate! A wooden crate, Wen Qing!"

It is only when he sees a shadow fall on his talisman that Wei Wuxian raises his eyes and meets those golden orbs staring back at him.
For a moment, time seems to stand still as their eyes lock, and Wei Wuxian's tails stop moving behind him.
"Lan Wangji?" he asks the man in front of him, from shock and confusion. Why is he here?
Lan Wangji, though, with a determined glint in his eyes, bows gracefully to Wei Wuxian, his movements precise yet filled with an unexpected depth of sincerity.
