“How were the film?”
“What film?” he replies, not looking up.
“You saw Gilda last night, didn't you? With Dorothy.”
These past two months have been difficult ones for Audrey. Siegfried and Dorothy have been courting openly and see each other a few times a week. Audrey should be delighted, being the one who urged them together in the first place, but things are a bit more complicated than that.
“Ah,” he says, shifting in his chair. “Actually, we didn’t get around to it.”

“Um,” his voice cracks and he clears his throat and tries again, “Um, Patrick can’t come into work today?”
“Oh?” Alexis asks, keeping the question carefully nonchalant which really only makes things worse. If she’s sparing his feelings then shit surely must be hitting the fan.
“Yeah.”
“Did he say why?” Again, meticulously neutral.
“No.”
Or, the morning after Grad Night goes somewhat differently when Patrick gets a call from home.

It’s Friday, for fuck’s sake. David did not have ‘death’ on the agenda for today.
But here he is, on a bus, attempting to steer this twin-axle six-wheeler despite lacking a valid regular license, let alone a commercial one, because to add insult to severe injury, the driver’s been fucking shot and if the speedometer drops below 80 kilometers per hour, said bus will explode.
Because some idiot decided to go ahead and put a bomb on it.
Or, the Speed AU that at least one of you asked for.

“What do you want me to do?” Remus says, tiredly. All he wants is to curl up on his bed. Smoke a pack of cigarettes. Get drunk. He can’t stop looking at Harry.
“Remus...” Dumbledore is gentle. Remus hates when he has that tone. Hates that he knows it will hurt. “There is no one else left.”
A bitter laugh escapes him. “So you’ll curse the poor thing with a werewolf for a guardian?”

Nandor is leaning against the curtained doorway, bumping his head back against the jamb over and over again as he listens to Guillermo just bitch.
“Memo, why have you not gotten a wife yet?” Guillermo imitates. “Memo, you should try the same diet Alexia is on. Memo, I saw Jeremiah in the supermercado yesterday, you two used to be such good friends—”
“Yeesh, alright, I get it,” Nandor finally snaps out, holding his hands over his ears. “You can stop with the voices now. It sounds insufferable.”
“It is insufferable!” Guillermo shoves another sweater into his overnight bag. “But Victor had to go and get engaged and plan the wedding for the same fucking weekend so here I am! Guilt-tripped into helping for a cousin I don’t even really know!”
