Summary
Kaveh gets injured on a job site, leaving him with significant damage to his eyes, temporarily - or perhaps permanently - unable to see. Completely blind, he has to learn to view the world through a whole new lens.
“There’s a good chance that the injury to his eyes won’t heal. He may lose his sight. Permanently.”
Alhaitham's heart plummeted. He glanced down at Kaveh's pale face, the bandage obscuring his eyes as he lay unconscious suddenly seeming far more oppressive.
“I see,” Alhaitham eventually managed through the lump forming in his throat. It would be Kaveh's life, his career - his entire livelihood - in jeopardy when he awoke.
The prospect of Kaveh’s blindness tormented Alhaitham for countless reasons, but selfishly... he couldn’t bear the thought of never again seeing those beautiful crimson-golden eyes, the very essence of the light in his life - eyes that lit up with joy at a good meal or a perfectly aged glass of wine, blazed with passion as he argued with Alhaitham, and stared up at him with an innocent, soul-stirring warmth, always so unaware of the profound effect the mere sight of him had on Alhaitham.

There is no question to be asked.
Master’s eyes are rimmed with red, streaks of pink against his complexion, which speaks the words perfectly fine on his behalf. He clears his throat; voice thick with emotion. “I… had hoped that the letter had not been directly delivered to you, as well.”
Collei completely crumbles, forgoing the progress she had made and landing right back on the ground.
“Uncle Kaveh isn’t okay, is he?” The way her voice breaks hardly even sends a shot of embarrassment through her mind. It barely even registers at all.

“Your death after noon,” Diluc announced, setting the glass down in front of Kaeya. Kaeya hadn’t even realised Diluc had made it. Maybe he was minutely blacking out at moments. Kaeya didn’t mind, so long as no one noticed.
“Thanks, love,” Kaeya said, wrapping one hand around the glass, still playing the sultry angle — passing off his deathbed voice for a bedroom one instead. Plus, the more he disgusted Diluc, the more likely he’d be left to die in peace.
Kaeya had always fought like he was ready to face death. Perhaps part of him even welcomed it. One day, that reckless abandon caught up to him, leaving him heavily wounded. Seeking comfort but not care, Kaeya staggered to the Angel’s Share for one last drink. He didn't deserve anything in these final, slow and agonising moments before bleeding out, but he could be selfish one last time, couldn't he?
Kaeya was so glad his estranged brother was tending the bar tonight.
