Still, it’s not terrible spending the next two weeks holed up with Ava. Alone, she’s not enough to make up for the lack of adoring audiences, but her laughter, her occasional delight, the way she looks up at Deborah every so often with something like awe glimmering in her eyes—it’s enough to keep Deborah going day by day. And somewhere along the way, Deborah starts to find herself enjoying it.
