Robby liked to think that he had a keen eye for things. Noticing is part of his job after all.
Robby noticed the way Whitaker played with his thumb when he felt nervous, and the way he always took a brief two-second deep breath before he entered a patient bay. Or how, when Whitaker listened to a patient complain, his head tilted a little to the side. His small, smart remarks when bantering with Santos in their own little bubble.
He also noticed that, for someone who looked timid, Whitaker’s presence is bigger than he could ever have expected.

“Why?” Whitaker squeezed shut his eyes. “Why can’t you just go?” his voice cracked.
Robby was looking at the now teary eyes in front of him. So big, so young, but tells a long story he hadn’t learned to unlock.
“I’m okay with rejection, you know,” Whitaker said, eyes darting everywhere but Robby, “I’m okay with that, I understand, but–” he choked, “But this is cruel, Dr. Robby.”
Robby shook his head, confused. “This is cruel, Dr. Robby,” the younger boy repeated, “You,” Robby felt a weak jab on his chest, “being so gentle with me only after this morning is just so mean.”

Robby got wasted, Dennis drove him home, they hooked up. Now it was the next morning, and chaos ensued.

Dennis remembered the first time he felt his father’s rage; it was also the first time he felt Godless.
He begged God to forgive him for talking about a boy in his class too much in his prayers, for being too soft-hearted, unlike his brothers, and for making his mama cry. He remembered begging God to change him, to like who God intended him to like.
God never answered that prayer.
So now, there he was, lying in bed with his boss naked. -

Basically Merlin starts a tavern brawl but really it’s not his fault.

When Merlin opened his eyes to see Uther Pendragon in all his menacing glory standing in the middle of his hospital room, he was almost certain that he must be high on painkillers, because there was no way, there was absolutely no way, that Uther Pendragon was standing in the middle of his hospital room.
“You’re awake,” Uther said, his voice almost pleasant. Merlin was immediately suspicious but the feeling was more muted than he usually felt when Uther showed up unannounced in his life – or rather Arthur’s life that Merlin was intrinsically a part of. Actually, everything was rather muted and hazy, which might be because Merlin was high on painkillers.

Summary
Merlin is sent alone, without Arthur on a mission to Northumbria to lift a curse that is killing its people. While he's gone, Merlin and Arthur exchange letters that become increasingly revealing. Missing one other seems to be the push they need to cross that line between being friends to something more.
But the situation in Northumbria soon becomes more dangerous and Merlin's life is put in danger. Arthur learns the hard way just how much he needs Merlin by his side.
