“I could kill you, I think.” Buffy giggles sleepily as a response. He glares at her. “I could , you mean, mean , you… bitch you.”
She sighs. “Okay, Spike. Maybe you can. Maybe you can find some other way to kill me, in fact, maybe you could’ve. Maybe you still can. Why don’t you?”
“Who says I’m not trying?” He says roughly, tracing his old shot glass with a finger. Who says every waking minute of me knowing you isn’t some sort of plot against you?”
Buffy looks at him carefully. “I heard your stories tonight. You’re not the most patient guy.”
“Well, under the right circumstances…” They exchanged looks before Buffy rolls her eyes and turns back towards the bar, away from him. The burning feeling was back. “You are fully mounted on that high horse of yours, you know that?”

Instead of going out of his mind, Spike doesn't dream of kissing Buffy and his and Buffy's life (and unlife) go on as usual. The only problem is, it manages to bring them closer, and they don't realize it or the rapidly developing feelings they have for each other.
