The cold makes him feel alive, makes him feel as if he is shedding his layers: the son, the brother, the student, the cold, distant friend who always wears a smile while always staying three steps away.

    He closes his eyes and lets the breeze numb his face. There are no more outer layers of skin; there is only himself and the quiet surrounding him.
