Summary
Carole dies when Bradley is two years old and he's left to be raised by his dad and Uncle Mav. When a deployment goes wrong three years later and Goose is killed in action, on the mission Maverick was supposed to fly, young Bradley is left to be raised by the only person he has left, and Mav has to learn to balance his own grief with this precious responsibility.

Mav’s really only seen the kid this angry once, and that event had disastrous consequences for their relationship. He still gets a pang in his chest when he thinks about the words his godson had hurled at him. Maverick desperately hopes that this won’t end the same way; he just got the kid back.

Despite making up after the mission, not everything is immediately fixed. There's still hurt that lingers on both sides, and not everything can be settled with just one talk and an apology.
