And perhaps in the future, they might have to leave their jobs and move into a small village, might have to risk breaking up and becoming the talk of town, but for now perhaps it was enough to know that you would risk your security, your comfort, risk all that you know to be with me.

Every night was spent wondering what his friends would be like if they were to be here, living free from so much pain and suffering; what their families would be like and how he would greet them if they were to meet. Were they even here? Could he reach them somehow?
And then, the questions began to transform into certainty. They must be here, because if they weren’t, then those were just people Ivan’d come up with. People he could never meet, people he’d lost without ever meeting. So they had to be here, alive and happy, because he couldn’t afford otherwise. He would go crazy.

He had no reason to bring it up. It wasn't like they were friends. They were barely even classmates, seeing as Kaeya decided to drop out and leave the valedictorian spot to Diluc.
