Jason looks up, and the fluorescent lights flicker a little before he clocks Slade and they stabilize.
Slade goes up to the waitress at the counter. She’s half asleep, leaning her chin in her hands; clearly a veteran of many a night at Denny's, if she can sleep through Jason’s currently spiky aura.
“Coffee, please,” Slade says, and her hand reaches for a cup without her looking. “Black.”
