Summary
“Uh, hello,” Ilya says when the cat rises up on its legs and stretches, back bending and paws curling down. Its ears flick and it gives him a dour sort of mwor in return. Witches have familiars, Ilya knows that. And this is a perfect spot for a familiar to be, on the stoop of the witch's house. Logic follows that the cat must be the witch's familiar.
So he says, very politely, “Shane is expecting us,” even though he has no idea if that’s true or not.
The cat yawns, tiny sharp teeth flashing at Ilya. Its ears flick again and then it curls up into a ball of fur, right there on the brick wall despite the fact that they’re hurtling towards the end of November and it’s fucking freezing outside.
“Is that good or bad, do you think,” Ilya asks Seryozha in Russian, gesturing at the cat when the familiar doesn’t move again except to curl its tail over the tip of its pink nose.
Seryozha’s phone screen flashes white in the darkness. That is a cat, he types, and Ilya scowls. It’s a fucking magical cat.

Summary
Ilya is a hockey player and he knows witches are as important to the MHL as a zamboni driver is. They put players back together when vengeful fans hurl skate dulling hexes or negate goal post charms that direct pucks everywhere except into the back of the net. However, he's never seen a witch like this.
Shane is a powerful witch behind the bench of one of the oldest hockey franchises. He loves to be on the ice as much as a player and so does his familiar. Together they protect players from curses, hexes, and injury. It’s not surprising when an odd curse pops up in a Russian player they would be the one to see it.

Summary
Shane has a lot of responsibility on his back.
He has a duty to this land and its people, a promise he made to his mother when she moved on from her role and passed it into his care.
“You are the best witch I’ve ever seen, Shane. You protect these people from the dangers that lurk beyond. There are monsters out there, scarier than any human, and it's your duty to keep them out.”
So Shane has a routine. A routine that involves magic and spellbooks and potions all lined up within certain parts of his day to ensure his home and the towns around it are free from the dangers of the supernatural.
But Shane’s strict, unwavering system is disrupted when he finds a large blonde wolf left for dead deep within his woods. Wolves are rare, he hasn’t seen a wolf in years.
However this break in his schedule has also brought on something even more rare than a blonde wolf, something Shane hasn’t seen within his own lifetime, something his mother warned him about.
His runes are breaking, and someone - or something - is doing it. They are after him.
And somehow this wolf is the key to everything.
