When Lindsay, the team operations manager, had pulled them into a meeting to discuss the rooming arrangements for the season, he’d been expecting Shane to get flustered, and turn bright red, and stammer out something like we wouldn’t want to make anyone on the team uncomfortable. Ilya, in fact, had just opened his mouth to say as much to her, but Shane beat him to the punch.
“If it can be arranged and doesn’t throw off anything, that’d be great,” Shane said.
Ilya gaped at him. “You want to room together?”
Shane just looked baffled. “What do you mean? We’re married. Of course we’re rooming together.”

Summary
All told he got into a couple scraps a year, but nothing to write home about – he didn’t instigate, he didn’t go too far. He kept his head level and focused on what it needed to be focused on: winning the game. Sure, one time he almost punched Scott Hunter’s lights out after a game, but whatever – he was emotionally compromised then, sue him. Mostly everyone assumed that was a weird blip and let it go, and he and Scott maintained enough professional friendliness at league events that everyone figured it wasn’t personal, which it wasn’t.
All of that to say that the more and more the media went on about Hockey’s Golden Boy, the more people forgot that Shane was, at the end of the day, just like any other professional hockey player. He knew how to throw a fucking punch. He just chose not to, most times, for strategic reasons.
It became apparent that people had forgotten this very key fact almost immediately after he joined the Centaurs.

Summary
Ilya tells him that a lot of the other things people or reporters ask are social media things from ‘chronically online’ people. Though he doesn't know what half of it means either, which makes Shane feel better. Shane is the opposite of chronically online. Chronically offline. Farah runs his official twitter which he never, ever logs into. He tried once, saw a hockey take that enraged him so much that he logged out and told Farah to change the password and never tell him. Then he had an hour-long date with his punching bag. Farah mostly runs his official instagram too, but he does occasionally log in himself to post pictures of him and Ilya now that he can do that. He’ll scroll through and like the backlog of all his friends' posts and then log out for another month. He never watches any of the reels that the rookies send him. Shane will die before he gets TikTok.
Shane, Ilya, Scott and Troy are all invited to give an interview on their experiences as queer men in hockey. This is obviously Shane's favourite use of his time.

Objectively, this used to be true. Nowadays Shane has many, many plans, between his nightly plans to look at Ilya’s penis through Skype and his various long-term plans laid out helpfully in his notebook, Canva (For Ilya’s sake. He is a visual learner), and more recently, Excel. Shane loves that excel sheet. He’s colour coded it.
In 2017, Shane Hollander spirals and proposes to his boyfriend of 4 days (or 7 years, or 9 years, or not his boyfriend at all, depending on how you look at it), which leads to a lot of plans, weird theories in the Montreal Voyageur locker room, some Twitter drama, and Ilya Rozanov entering his WAG era.
