“Who did this?” Ghost managed to keep his voice soft, but his arms tightened slightly around Soap.
Soap shook his head, managing a soft laugh that didn’t sound like his usual. “Just some dickhead alpha who thought he could claim me. Dinnae worry, I punched him out.”
Ghost's stomach churned; the alpha should have never gotten close enough to even try to claim Johnny.
“Why?”
Soap looked at him with his head tilted slightly. “Why did I punch him? Obviously because he tried to-“
“No, no, why did you go to him?” Ghost wished he hadn’t asked. Bloody hell, he shouldn’t have asked.
“I-“ Soap looked sheepish, but surprisingly the distressed scent was weakening, replaced by the unusual sweetness he smelled before. “I’m going into heat soon and needed someone.”

Ghost refuses to scent Soap. Soap had finally accepted that, until his heat creeps up on him after a mission and he wants nothing more than the alpha’s scent around him. When a pre-heat hook-up goes wrong, Ghost and Soap finally stop dancing around each other.
