Physically, at least.
After everything that happened, things between him and the family he once considered his own are worse than ever. They barely speak to him, and every attempt Buck makes to find his way back to them is met with distance. So he keeps his head down. He works. He takes extra shifts. He tries to prove that he still belongs. But while everyone is busy ignoring him, Buck's health begins to deteriorate.
What he thinks is stress turns into something far more serious. A doctor's appointment changes everything when Buck is diagnosed with leukemia. And suddenly, the one thing he doesn't know how to do is tell the people he loves.And this time, Buck decides he won't be anyone's burden.

"He hit someone," Ms. Smith said. "With a broom."
"A broom," Buck repeated.
"The broom," she corrected.
Theo puffed up.
"They were being mean to Chris. So I got the broom and-"
"You used a broom," Buck said slowly.
"It worked."
The man across the room coughed. It sounded suspiciously like a laugh.
Chris spoke up, voice small:
"He was really b-brave."
"Thank you! I was!"
